Costs & savings

How much do solar panels cost in Bristol in 2026?

What a 4 kWp, 6 kWp and 10 kWp system actually costs installed in Bristol — and the payback figures we quote honestly.

The honest answer is that most Bristol homes land somewhere between £5,000 and £11,000 for a fully installed, MCS certified solar PV system. The spread is wide because roofs are wide-ranging — but the drivers are predictable, so here is how we price a job.

Typical installed prices

  • 4 kWp (around 10 panels) — roughly £5,000–£6,500 installed
  • 6 kWp (around 14 panels) — roughly £6,500–£8,500 installed
  • 10 kWp+ (larger detached homes) — roughly £9,000–£12,000 installed
  • Battery storage added at the same time — from around £3,500 for 5 kWh

Domestic solar and battery installations currently attract 0% VAT under HMRC rules, so the price you are quoted is the price you pay. Every quote we issue includes scaffolding, the DNO application, commissioning and your MCS certificate.

What pushes the price up

  • Two or three roof planes instead of one — more rail, more labour, sometimes more optimisers
  • Slate or clay tile roofs, which take longer to work than concrete tile
  • Three-storey properties or awkward scaffold access
  • Shading from chimneys or trees, which means panel-level optimisers
  • A consumer unit or main earth that needs upgrading first

What payback actually looks like

A 4 kWp system in Bristol generates roughly 3,500–4,500 kWh a year. At current unit rates, and with a typical self-consumption of 40–50%, that is £600–£900 a year of value once Smart Export Guarantee payments are included. That puts most systems in the seven to nine year payback bracket, and closer to six with a battery on a smart tariff.

Be sceptical of anyone quoting a four-year payback without seeing your roof, your usage and your tariff. We would rather show you a conservative number and beat it.
